The Dental Signal ("we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Email address - when you subscribe (free or paid)
- Name - if you provide it during signup (optional)
- Payment information - processed securely by Stripe; we never see or store your full card number
- Correspondence - emails you send us
Information collected automatically
- Usage data - pages visited, time on site, referral source (via Ghost's built-in analytics)
- Device information - browser type, operating system, screen size
- IP address - used for security and approximate geographic location only
Information we do NOT collect
- Calculator inputs (all calculations run client-side in your browser)
- Social security numbers, dental license numbers, or clinical patient data
- Data from third-party tracking pixels (we do not use Facebook Pixel, Google Ads, etc.)
2. How We Use Your Information
- Deliver articles and newsletters to your email
- Process paid subscription billing via Stripe
- Improve our content based on aggregate readership data
- Respond to your inquiries and support requests
- Prevent fraud and maintain site security
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Period.
3. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate:

Each service processes data under their own privacy policy. We have data processing agreements with all providers.
4. Cookies
We use only essential cookies required for site functionality:
- Session cookie - keeps you logged in
- Ghost members cookie - identifies your subscription tier
We do not use advertising cookies, third-party tracking cookies, or analytics cookies beyond Ghost's built-in, privacy-respecting analytics.
5. Data Retention
- Active subscribers: Data retained while your account is active
- Canceled subscribers: Email and name retained for 30 days (in case you resubscribe), then deleted
- Correspondence: Retained for 12 months for support purposes
- Analytics data: Aggregated (non-personal) data retained indefinitely
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:
- Access - request a copy of data we hold about you
- Correction - update inaccurate information
- Deletion - request we delete your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Portability - receive your data in a standard format
- Opt-out - unsubscribe from emails at any time (link in every email)

7. California Residents (CCPA)
California residents have additional rights under the CCPA:
- Right to know what personal information is collected and how it's used
- Right to delete personal information
- Right to opt out of the "sale" of personal information (we do not sell your data)
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights
8. Children's Privacy
The Dental Signal is a professional publication for dental industry professionals. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, contact privacy@thedentalsignal.com.
9. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted data transmission (TLS/SSL), secure payment processing via Stripe (PCI-DSS compliant), access controls, and regular security reviews. No system is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

We may update this policy periodically. Material changes will be communicated via email to all subscribers. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
