We publish a benchmark figure only when we can show where it came from.
Our data standard
Figures from outside sources—the ADA Health Policy Institute, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, published industry surveys—are named and dated where they appear. Figures from our own data appear only once they clear a minimum sample, and we say how large the sample is. When a number can't meet that bar, we leave it out rather than estimate it.
